Caren Loebel-Fried                      

This self-guided storybook trail featured Caren Loebel-Fried’s book, Legend of the Gourd, a magical re-telling of the story about the “Children of the Gourd” who live on the Kamāʻoa Plain in Kaʻū. Visitors followed the storyboards (in English and Hawaiian) along the trail to the top of Puʻu o Lokuana and, at the top, where the panoramic view invited participants to imagine the path of the gourd vine from Kamāʻoa to Kapuʻa.
